Whether you’re hosting a watch party or just enjoying the game from home, the Super Bowl can be challenging when it comes to balanced eating.

Most registered dietitian nutritionists suggest being intentional with food choices by using mindfulness, portion control,- and ingredient swaps that don’t sacrifice the taste and enjoyment of a dish.

“Special occasions are one of the biggest challenges people face when it comes to eating in a way that gets them closer to their health goals,” said Amy Schneider, RDN at Michigan Medicine.

“I would suggest changes such as making a plate instead of eating directly from the buffet line, sitting down to eat instead of eating while standing or distracted, and eating when you’re hungry instead of eating just because the food is available.”

If you’re looking to improve the balance of your favorite finger foods, try out these six simple, flavorful recipes inspired by recipes from MHealthy, a University of Michigan wellness program.

1.Buffalo cauliflower bites

A spicy, crispy snack that's a perfect substitute for traditional buffalo wings, these cauliflower bites are full of flavor.

2. Roasted pepper feta poppers

These colorful, savory bites are loaded with nutrients.

The roasted peppers stuffed with creamy feta offer a perfect balance of flavors for your Super Bowl spread.

3. Hot honey pretzel chicken fingers

A fun, sweet and spicy twist on chicken fingers, this recipe combines crunchy pretzels with a kick of hot honey for a bold flavor profile.

4. Tex-Mex layered bean dip

A great option for serving a crowd, this Tex-Mex layered bean dip is the real deal.

Pair it with whole grain tortilla chips AND raw vegetables (like carrot chips, bell peppers, and celery) for an added boost.

5. Middle eastern layered dip

This refreshing dip features creamy hummus, crunchy veggies, and tangy tzatziki sauce.

6. Strawberry crumble bars

And don’ forget dessert!

These strawberry crumble bars are delicious and satisfying.
