William R. Solomon, M.D. (Residency 1959, Fellowship 1963) died November 6, 2022, at age 92.

Solomon received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine in 1955. He completed his internship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland in 1956, followed by a residency and fellowship at the U-M Medical School. At U-M, he was reunited with his childhood friend, Lois Malzman, who was studying art. They married in 1957.

During his medical education, Solomon served in the U.S. Air Force in Fairbanks, Alaska. After completing his military service, he combined his love of botany and science by specializing in internal medicine, specifically allergy and immunology, at U-M until he retired in 2012.

During his tenure at U-M, he published more than 40 articles on allergens and served as the allergy and clinical immunology division chief for 10 years.

Solomon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of Temple Beth Emeth and a great supporter of numerous Jewish organizations and charities. Solomon was also an avid U-M sports fan.

This obituary is based on one published in the University Record.
